Traralgon is a bustling suburb in the Gippsland region of Victoria. It is located in the east of the Latrobe Valley and has a population of over 24,500.

History

The town of Traralgon was first discovered by Europeans in the 1840s. As the land in the area was so fertile, it was mainly used for dairy farming. It was in the 1860s when the town was established and the first post office opened.

In the 1930s, Traralgon stopped being a farming area. Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh visited the town in 1954. It was the president of the Shire of Traralgon who welcomed the Queen. She was flown by the RAAF from Sale.

Traralgon has a friendly atmosphere, along with great restaurants, shopping and schools. The town is home to some excellent entertainment venues and events including the Traralgon horse-racing cup and Australia Day Breakfast.

There are plenty of places nearby to go for picnics and days out. You can choose to travel via the roads, trains and buses. Australian rules football is a big deal in Traralgon, as well as cricket, soccer, basketball and horse racing.
