Food and wine are a huge part of South Australian life, particularly throughout the Barossa where wine themed events, cellar doors and wineries are on offer at every turn.

The fourth largest of Australia’s states and territories, South Australia occupies a large block of land in the middle-third of the country and stretching from the red centre to the southern coast. SA shares a border with all mainland states, including Western Australia to the west, the Northern Territory to the north, Queensland in the north-east, and both New South Wales and Victoria to the east. The southern edge of South Australia is where the waters of the Great Australian Bight meets the land.

There are twelve major regions of South Australia: Adelaide City, Adelaide Hills, Barossa, Clare Valley, Eyre Peninsula, Fleurieu Peninsula, Flinders Ranges & Outback, Kangaroo Island, Limestone Coast, Murray River, Riverland, and the Yorke Peninsula. The capital city of South Australia is Adelaide, also known as the ‘City of Churches’ with close to 800 churches standing within the city limits. Adelaide is also the cultural capital of South Australia hosting the WOMADelaide world music festival, the Adelaide Festival, Adelaide Fringe, and the Adelaide Biennial art exhibition. There is also a happening night scene in Adelaide with some great bars and restaurants to check out. In the warmer months, you can while away the day on the beaches that are just a stone’s throw away from the CBD.
