Nebo is a tiny town in Queensland. You can find this adorably small suburb on the Peak Downs Highway in the Isaac region. Only 840 people live in Nebo. Neighbouring suburbs include Strathfield, Oxford, Koumala, Hail Creek, Epsom, Mt Britton and Blue Mountain. Mackay can be found 93 kilometres north-east of Nebo.
History
Nebo was officially named in 1923. Before then, it was called Fort Cooper. Nebo gets its name from Nabu, a Babylonian god. The first school in the area opened in 1874.
Lifestyle and Entertainment
Coal mining plays a vital role in the local economy. In fact, there are at least eleven mines in the district to this day.
Because Nebo is so small, there’s only one school in the area. Around 60 students attend the school and there are only four teachers.
If you’re a lover of the outdoors, Nebo is home to Lake Elphinstone. You can camp overnight for free and the lake is great for fishing, swimming, water-skiing and kayaking.
