Mackay Harbour is a suburb of the city Mackay on Australia’s east coast. It is home to the Australian Marina of the Year and has a population of 544 as of 2014.

History

The Mackay region was originally populated by the Yuireba people. It is named after the Scot John Mackay, who lead an expedition to the region in 1862.

Many of the region’s historic buildings were destroyed in an infamous 1918 storm, which caused an outbreak of the bubonic plague.

In 2014, Mackay Harbour’s marina won the Marina of the Year award.

Mackay Harbour is a peaceful suburb with a wide range of restaurants along the waterfront. It also features a boat ramp, a Surf Club and a number of high rise developments, which offer fantastic views of the Coral Sea.
