Northern Territory

The Northern Territory (or The Top End as it is informally known) is a land of breathtaking natural beauty.

From the towering monolith that is Uluru, to the cavernous depths of King’s Canyon, the sprawling wilderness of national parkland and rugged coastlines in the north… just keep an eye out for the crocs!

Occupying a large wedge of land in the north of Australia, the Northern Territory is the third largest of Australia’s eight major states and territories, but with just under 250,000 inhabitants, it ranks lowest for population size on the same list.

Northern Territory is bordered by Western Australia to the west, South Australia to the south, Queensland to the east and the Arafura Sea to the north. The Northern Territory is divided into seven major regions; Alice Springs, Arnhem Land, Darwin, Kakadu, Katherine, Tennant Creek and Uluru. Alice Springs perfectly blends the charm of old times with the warmth of modern Australia. This unique and exceptionally beautiful region brings together a number of communities and towns, creating an ideal balance between secluded and homely. Boasting indescribable beauty, the Todd is the most recognisable river in Alice Springs.

The picturesque banks of this iconic place offers visitors the opportunity to picnic, bird watch and relax but don’t plan a swimming trip here, the Todd is usually dry, having very low flow for more than 90% of the year. Despite its unorthodox water levels, it’s easy to spend a day just taking in the sights and sounds of this majestic landmark, so plan a day trip and take the time to enjoy a local treasure. Wild and modern, easy-going and hardworking, Darwin and its surrounds are a region of opposites and extremes.
