Narromine is a town in New South Wales. With a population of over 3,700, Narromine is very popular for gliding and growing fruit. The name Narromine has its roots in the Aboriginal word for “honey person”.

History

In 1818, John Oxley was the first European to visit the area. The Main West railway line opened in 1882 and in 1883, Narromine was established. In 1926, a huge flood hit Narromine. The Macquarie River, which runs through the time, rose to 50 feet. Almost 70 years later, in 1990, the river peaked again at 52 feet.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Narromine is well-known for its sporting achievements. Narromine’s Rugby League team is the Narromine Jets. The Rugby Union team is called the Narromine Gorillas. Both teams are very successful.

Narromine is also known as the home of Glenn McGrath, Melinda Gainsford-Taylor, and Justin Smith.
