Narrabri is a town in NSW. According to the 2011 census, it has a population of over 5,800 people. The area is a thriving farming spot and produces cotton, wheat, lamb and beef.

History

Indigenous tribes lived in the area before the arrival of Europeans in the 1800s. A large part of the local population today is made up of their descendants.
Narrabri gained official town status in 1861. The erection of post office, hospital, school and courthouse soon followed.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Today, the town is an important farming hub. It is well-known for being near Pilliga Forest. It is the largest remaining area of temperate forest in Eastern Australia.
There is a large cinema and theatre complex in the town. An active local radio station and community newspaper keeps residents up to date on the latest news.

Popular tourist attractions include the Mt Kaputar National Park, and the Paul Wild Observatory.
