Dubbo is a city in New South Wales with an estimated population of over 40,000. It is situated 303 kilometres north-west of Sydney and has plenty of facilities and attractions to offer people of all ages.
History
A man called John Oxley from Yorkshire, England was the first European to report on the city we now know as Dubbo. However, the first European settler in the area was an English man called Robert Dulhunty.
The word Dubbo is said to come from the Wiradjuri language. It should be spelt and pronounced Thubbo, though. Dubbo is home to Dundullimal Homestead, which is a farmhouse built in 1840. It’s one of the oldest buildings still standing in western NSW today.
Lifestyle and Entertainment
Dubbo has lots of shopping districts and is a popular tourist area. The Taronga Western Plains Zoo features animals from around the world and offers you the chance to get up close and personal with most of them.
You can find two museums, four galleries and a community arts centre in the city. Dubbo also hosts many annual shows including festivals, bodybuilding championships and agricultural events.
