Watson is a suburb in North Canberra. It’s located 7km north of Canberra’s central business district, and borders on the Federal Highway. Watson has a population of more than 5,100.

History

Founded in 1960, Watson was named in honour of John Christian Watson, Australia’s third prime minister. It was designed as a residential suburb, with many estates planned and built over the following decades.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Watson is known for the Canberra Technology Park, which now occupies the site of the old Watson High School. The Technology Park includes the Academy of Interactive Entertainment. The Signadou campus of ACU is based in Watson, as are the Southern Cross Ten and Prime7 TV studios. On the east, Watson is bordered by the Mt Majura Special Purpose Reserve. The Watson Woods sit towards the suburb’s centre, and several motels are present as well. Watson’s food spots include Cherryripe Brasserie and My Friend Vietnamese.
