O’Connor is a suburb in the North Canberra district of Canberra. It has a population of over 5,250.

History

O’Connor was named after a judge in the High Court and a founder of the Australian constitution, Richard Edward O’Connor. The name of the suburb was gazetted in 1928.

The street names in O’Connor are named after Australian flora, explorers, legislators, and pioneers. It is known for its leafy streets and dethatched single dwelling houses. The suburb is bounded by Wattle and David streets and includes the Bruce/O’Connor Ridge Nature Reserve.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

O’Connor is home to a small shopping centre. It includes a bar, a small grocery store, a pharmacy, and a few restaurants. The suburb also has two schools, The O’Connor Cooperative School and St Joseph’s primary school.

There is also a large strip of land called the O’Connor Ridge that is used for bushwalking and mountain biking.
