Latham is a residential suburb in Canberra in the Belconnen district. It has a population of over 3,600.

History

Lathan is named to honour the Chief Justice of the High Court of Australia from 1935 to 1852, John Latham. It’s located next to the suburbs of Charnwood, Macgregor, Holt, Higgins, Flory, and Flynn.

Latham used to have a shopping centre from the mid-1970s, however, this wound down between 1996 and 1998 and closed in May 1998. This was due to a fire that destroyed the supermarket, causing roof damage to the rest of the centre. The post office closed after the fire and moved to an abandoned petrol station site.

Street names in the suburb are named after Australian judges.

Latham is home to a primary school and includes a neighbourhood oval and an ACTEW substation.

The suburb has open areas of grassland such as the Umbagong District Park. The Ginninderra Creek runs through Latham.
