Hall is a residential suburb on the edge of Canberra. It has a village feel because of it’s historic buildings that existed before Canberra. It has a population of 332.

History

In 1881, the NSW government surveyed the area near Ginninderra to set up a village. They chose a site located on Hall’s Creek. Initially called Ginninderra, the town’s name became Hall in 1882. It’s named after the first landholder, Henry Hall. It was planned on a rectangular grid.

In 1911, the ACT was gazetted and Hall became part of the ACT. The town failed to grow because of it’s few amenities. It was not provided with town water until 1967.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

The town contains the Hall Pavilion and Showground. The showground hosts the Hall Markets, a popular monthly charity market showcasing handmade goods.

Several historical buildings include the Cooee, Glenowa and Winarlia.
