History

Florey is a very new suburb. The majority of the houses were built in the 1980s. Before houses were put up in Florey, there was some industry in the area.

Florey takes its name from Howard Florey, a Nobel Prize winner. Florey won a joint Nobel Prize in 1945 for his work on penicillin. There is a scientific theme to the suburb, and a lot of Australian scientists are remembered here by having streets called after them.

Florey is a residential area. It has a shopping centre with a number of different shops to choose from. The shopping centre also has a commemorative plaque with information about Howard Florey. There are three schools to choose from in Florey.
