Based in the ACT, Dunlop is a suburb in Canberra. It lies in the Belconnen district, 11.6km north-west of the city. Dunlop neighbours Macgregor, Charnwood, and Fraser. According to the 2011 census, it has a population of over 7,100 people.

History

Like many Canberra suburbs, Dunlop is fairly young. It achieved gazetted status in 1993. The suburb takes its name from Lieutenant Colonel Sir Ernest Edward ‘Weary’ Dunlop. Born in Victoria, he was an Australian surgeon.

Visitors will notice that all of Dunlop’s streets take their names from artists, inventors, and intentions.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Dunlop does not have any schools. Students must travel to Charnwood, Macgregor or Fraser. The area is still popular with families. There are eight playgrounds for children. There are also many grassy parks to explore.

Fassifern Homestead is not being used at the moment. It used to be an equestrian park.
