History

Henry Hall built an estate in the area in 1833. He named it after Charnwood Forest in England.

Construction began on homes in Charnwood as the Belconnen region developed. It became a suburb in 1971. Streets are named for New South Wales pioneers.

Charnwood is elevated. Many streets offer good views out to the surrounding mountains. The suburb offers affordable housing within 20 minutes drive of the central business district.

The local shops offer all the essentials, including a supermarket and medical centre. There are several take away shops.
