History

Established in 1976, Winthrop once served as a pine tree plantation. It was owned by the University of Western Australia at this time. The occasional pine tree remains here as a reminder of Winthrop’s past.

Residential blocks were introduced in the 1980’s. The first convenience store opened in the area soon afterwards.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Wildlife and nature play a prominent role in Winthrop. The area is home to a number of parks and nature reserves. One of the most popular is Piney Lakes Reserve, which has its own conservation centre.

Winthrop has many nature trails. Along them you may encounter native birds, including warblers and cockatoos. The area is also home to Winthrop Village Shopping Centre.
