This affluent suburb of Perth is just 10 kilometres from the city’s CBD. It has a population of almost 6,000 people.

History

The town got its name from the nearby golf course which was itself called after the suburb of Wembley. The name originally came from the English town of Wembley, one of London’s suburbs.

In the 1920s Wembley Downs was still very rural, covered in bush and limestone outcrops. Development was slow and problematic. From 1950 onwards the area experienced a population boom and by the late 1970s was almost totally developed.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Today, residents in the town enjoy higher income levels than other areas of Perth. The prestigious Hale School is in Wembley Downs, as well as a state primary school.

The town was designed to be a ‘garden suburb’ and has ample green spaces for leisure.
