Welshpool is an inner southeastern suburb of Perth, located in the City of Canning. It’s situated 10km from Perth’s central business district and is zoned as an industrial area.

History

The suburb is named after Welshpool Road. The road’s name was recorded as early as 1889. One story says that an early market gardener, Benjamin Dewing, named his property Welshpool. This was because he was born in the city of Welshpool in Wales. The area became known as Welshpool in 1895, but residents petitioned to have the Welshpool station changed to Canterbury in 1908.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

The area is an industrial area. It is one of Perth’s main industrial area, along with Kewdale, Kwinana, Henderson, Malaga, O’Connor, Canning Vale and Osborne Park. It’s factories and warehouses are used by local and national businesses.

It is served by Welshpool railway station.
