Welcome to Morawa, WA
Morawa is a town in the Mid West region of Western Australia. It has a population of 655 and is known for its sheep, sandalwood and wheat farming.
History
Taking its name from the Aboriginal word for dalgite, ’Morowar’, Morawa first appeared on maps circa 1910 in reference to a rock hole. After World War Two, much of the farmland around the town was given to returning servicemen, which spurred growth. The town was also a centre for iron ore mining.
Lifestyle and Entertainment
There is lots of accommodation for visitors, including a caravan park, motel and guest houses. Tourists can visit the miniature John Hawes Presbytery, thought to be the smallest priest’s cell in the southern hemisphere, with just one room. Though the town’s ecology has been altered by years of mining, it is still home to a number of endemic species and biological communities.
