Moora is a town located 177 kilometres north of Perth in the Wheatbelt Region of Western Australia. It was one of the original stations on the Midland railway lines and has a population of 1,822.
History
The townsite was gazetted in 1895. In 1932 over half of the town was submerged in almost a metre of floodwater, which washed away rail lines and roads. Crops and stock in the surrounding area were lost and the area was left caked in mud.
Lifestyle and Entertainment
Every September the town hosts the Moora Agricultural Show, which features an equestrian program, fireworks, and a fashion parade. The Moora Cup Race Day in October is the biggest event in the town. Tourists flock to the area to see the Western Wildflower Farm and the town’s many hand-painted murals. They also visit the beautiful Moora Town Clock which was designed by local students.
