Mindarie is an outer coastal suburb in Perth, 36km north of the CBD. It forms part of the City of Wanneroo local government area and has a population of around 7,500.

History

In 1988, the suburb was formally set up after having been briefly used for its limestone deposits in the early 1900s. It became a suburb after the construction of the Mindarie Marina and hotel. This marina is one of the biggest man-made resorts in Western Australia.

The suburb was named after Lake Mindarie near Carabooda. It is a Noongar word which means either “the place near which is held a ceremony” or “green water”.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

The suburb is home to many shops, restaurants, and schools. Large bushland reserves and parks in the suburb preserve its previously natural state, for example, its large coastal dunes.

It was one of the filming locations for the Australian-Canadian children’s science fiction television series “Stormworld”.
