Mandurah is a beautiful city located 72 kilometres south of Perth. It is the second-largest city in Western Australia with a population of about 83,000.

History

The Noongar tribe originally named the area Mandjar. The word means “meeting place.” It was changed to Mandurah after the European settlement.

A British man called Thomas Peel arrived in Western Australia in 1829. He built a small settlement named Clarence. He led the Clarence settlers to Mandurah. The area grew after his death in 1865.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

The city of Mandurah attracts lots of tourists every year. There is plenty of wildlife in the area including dolphins and pelicans. Mandurah is known for its marine life, waterways, beaches and fishing.

A festival called Crabfest is held in the city each year. You can also find two zoos within the outskirts of the area. There are five big shopping districts and smaller retail hubs in and around the town.
