Kings Park is a 4.06-square-kilometre park on the western edge of Perth’s CBD. It is the most popular visitor destination in WA and one of the largest inner-city parks in the world, visited by over 5 million people a year.

History

The park was officially opened on the 10th August 1985. Originally named Perth Park, it was renamed King’s Park in 1901 (the apostrophe was later dropped). The name was given to mark the ascension of King Edward VII to the throne and the visit to Perth of George, the Duke of Cornwall, and Princess Mary.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Kings Park is a mixture of botanical gardens, grassed parkland, and natural bushland. It is home to over 324 native plant varieties, 80 bird species, and 215 types of indigenous fungi. The park overlooks the city of Perth as well as Melville Water and Perth Water.

Along with many tourist attractions, the park also features the Royal Kings Park Tennis Club, a reservoir, and the State War Memorial.
