Henderson is a suburb in Perth, Western Australia, located within the City of Cockburn. It’s situated 30km south-west of Perth’s central business district.

History

The area comprises of land resumed by the Commonwealth Government in 1915 for defence purposes. Admiral Sir Reginald Friend Hannam Henderson planned to build a large naval base in the area. It was sometimes called “Henderson’s Naval Base”. The suburb was named after him and officially gazetted in 1973.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

It is bounded by Russell Road to the north and the City of Kwinana to the south. Cockburn Sound is to the west and the Perth freight railway line is to the east.

The Australian Marine Complex is located in the suburb and is one of the largest ship building precincts in Australia. It has dry dock facilities and Australia’s largest ship-lift.
