This small, rural town has a population of 2,700 people. It is ten minutes away from Midland, in the foothills of the Darling Scarp in Perth.

History

Helena Valley is the name of the river valley and town which were named after the Helena River. The area is considered rural by some but also has residential housing estates and a shopping centre.

Many developments in the area have been controversial with residents objecting to planning applications and processes. Similar in scope to the Smiths Beach development, residents did not want planners to ruin their unspoilt surroundings.

One of the town’s early settlers was noted botanist James Drummond. The Drummond Gardens in the town are named after him.
