Based in the South West region of Western Australia, Dardanup is a small town. It lies near the Ferguson River, in the Ferguson Valley. The town is 10km south-west of Bunbury. According to the 2011 census, Dardanup has a population of 370.
History
The name Dardanup comes from the Aboriginal word “Dardingyup”. However, the meaning of this name is unclear.
In 1852, Thomas Little settled in the area. He named his property “Dardanup Park”. He gave some of his land to the Catholic Church, and other settlers began to arrive in the area. In 1893, J. and H. Gibbs began construction of the local Agricultural Hall. The hall opened in 1894.
The town was officially established and gazetted in 1923.
