History

Coolgardie was once the third largest town in Western Australia following Perth and Fremantle owing to the discovery of gold in 1892. At its height, the town boasted 2 stock exchanges, 3 breweries, 7 newspapers, 26 hotels, and was renowned for its Afghan Cameleers. The town prospered until the early 1900s when the existence of gold dwindled. It is now regarded as a ‘ghost town’.
