Bentley is a Perth based 8km south-east of the central business district. It’s shared by two local government areas; the City of Canning and the Town of Victoria Park. Bentley has a population of more than 9,300.

History

The land that would become Bentley was first inhabited by the Beeloo Nyungar people. European settlement began in 1830, gaining the name Bentley Hill about thirty years later. The 1940s marked the start of heavy urban development, with many new housing estates commissioned. This included homes for veterans of the Second World War, some of which still remain occupied. Curtin University opened in 1967, and the Western Australian Technology Park followed in 1985.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Bentley is a thriving suburb, with plenty of shops and dining options. The Bentley Plaza, a large shopping centre, is based in the suburb’s main commercial hub. Woolworths and the Bentley Hotel are also found here. Bentley features several parks, including Mitchell Park, Gochean Park and Wyong Reserve. A retirement home and hospital are present as well.
