Belmont is situated only 7km east of Perth’s central business district on the southern bank of the Swan River. Originally known as Belmont Park, it wasn’t renamed until 1968. The area is a mix of commercial and residential development with motels and other facilities next to the Great Eastern Highway. The area has a population of just over 5,000 people.

History

Part of the original land grant was awarded in 1831 to someone called Captain Henry Byrne and it is thought to have been named after his estate in England. When Shepherd Smith then purchased the land in 1882 it was later subdivided around 1898.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Belmont has 2 public schools, a primary and a high school. The area has a Centenary Park, the Signal Hill Bushland, and an area known as the Belgravia Residential Estate. The Maylands Peninsula Public Golf Course is situated just across the river from Belmont and there are great transport links via the Great Eastern Highway.
