History

The Beeliar people were a tribe of indigenous Australians. They belong to the Noongar peoples of the south west of the country. They were a significant tribe that extended across the greater Perth area. When European settlers, specifically Brits, arrived near Beeliar in 1829, there were 60 Beeliars. These included the famous warriors of Yagan and Midgegooroo.

Beeliar is home to biodiverse natural reserve which makes for a great day out walking or birdwatching. Thomsons Lake is a protected area in the Beeliars Regional Park, which is mostly wetland. Take a nature walk, bush walk, or horse ride to experience the rare species of bird in their natural state. The surrounding area is mostly housing, with local shops and restaurants.
