Banjup is a residential suburb in Perth and is located within the City of Cockburn. It’s located 25km south of Perth’s central business district and has a population of 1,402.

History

During the survey of a nearby agricultural area, surveyor James Oxley named the lake nearby Lake Bangup. A siding on the Fremantle-Armadale railway line was named Banjup in 1907, which was changed to Banjup in the 1930’s. Therefore, the town’s name comes from the nearby lake and railway line.

In 2016, the northern part of the suburb became its own town called Treeby.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

The town consists of rural residential property, with most being an average size of 2 hectares. There are a small number of agricultural businesses, such as plant nurseries, in the town as well. Most of the properties are used for hobby farms and are lived on by residents who prefer open space.
