History

The town was gazetted in 2006. Before this, the suburb was part of Karragullen.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

The main road through the town is McNess Drive. The area is home to Canning Dam. The dam has picnic areas where many families enjoy weekend picnics. The town is also home to Araluen Botanic Park. Local schools include Armidale Primary School, Good Shepherd Catholic School and Kelmscott Primary School.

Because it is a small suburb, Ashendon doesn’t have many shopping areas. Residents often shop in nearby towns. However, the area does have a large supermarket. There are smaller stores in the town, which can be found in a small shopping centre.
