History

The first people to live in the Albany area were an Indigenous Australian people called the Menang Noongar. During the summer they used to fish here. Fish traps were found by the first Europeans to visit the area. They also found rudimentary housing made of bark.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Albany relies on tourism as well as agriculture, timber and fishing. Whaling used to be practised in the area, and you can find out more about this by visiting the whaling museum.

There are many beautiful, sandy beaches in the area. There is a dive wreck nearby called HMAS Perth. Albany can be very hot in summer, although a breeze from the ocean makes it more bearable.
