The suburb of Wattle Glen in Melbourne is situated 25km north-east of the city’s central business district. It falls within the Shire of Nillumbik local government area. The suburb has the attraction of being very much a rural location that is only a short drive to the centre of Melbourne. The area has a population of almost 2,000 people.

History

On November 1st, 1901 the Post Office opened as the Diamond Creek Upper and was later renamed in 1922 as Wattle Glen. It remained in use until 1975. The railway arrived in the area in 1912 and the station was also renamed as Wattleglen (one word) in 1922 on the 14th of August.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

The local general store which was built in 1988 is still a popular meet and greet spot. Unfortunately, the original store that stood opposite today’s building was burnt down in the early 1900s. Wattle Glen also has a tennis club, CFA station, and a scout hall. The local Primary School is also known as the Wattle Glen Primary School.
