When the shoulder of the tread on one side of a tyre wears faster than the adjacent tread surface, this can result from a variety of conditions, such as front and/or rear misalignment, lose or worn suspension components, hard cornering, improper tyre rotation practices, misapplication, high crown roads or non-uniform mounting. Incorrect alignment settings can adversely affect handling. Tolerable camber, caster and toe settings can be verified by a printout from your alignment/tyre shop or vehicle dealer. If the tyres are evenly worn, the alignment is in order and there is still a pull, the front tyres should be criss-crossed (as long as they are not a directional tread design) to see if the pull changes directions. This should be performed by an authorised motor mechanic at Tyre Plus Warrnambool.
Cord material may become visible at the base of tread grooves or slots due to under inflation, misalignment, loose/worn suspension components, hard cornering, improper tyre rotation practices, misapplication, high crown road or non-uniform mounting. If cord material is visible, the tyre must be replaced.
Rotation is important because each tyre on a car carries a different amount of weight, making them wear at different rates. By rotating them, you basically even out those differences. Your owner's manual will tell you how often to rotate your tyres but as a rough guide, it should be done every 10,000km. You might want to rotate them sooner if you see signs of uneven wear.
The most common cause of steering wheel shake is your wheel balance, so it's important to have this checked as soon as possible at your nearest T-Mart. Besides causing annoying steering wheel vibrations, seat vibrations and increased fuel consumption, improperly balanced wheels reduce road holding ability and also increase wear of shock absorbers, struts, suspension and chassis components.
