The rural town of Trafalgar has a population of more than 2,500 people. The town sits in the foothills of the Strzelecki Ranges, in the West Gippsland region of Victoria.

History

The town dates back to the mid-1800s and its post office opened in 1879.
It is known for its cheese factory which has famously produced a number of award-winning products. The factory was operational until 1990.

Figures associated with Trafalgar include Tim Forsyth, the Olympic high-jumper, and race-caller Bill Collins.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Trafalgar is located on the Bairnsdale Railway Line, offers a choice of schools, and has a church and town hall.

Sporting opportunities include tennis, swimming, football, lawn bowling and golf. The town’s Trafalgar Golf Club has a course often referred to as ‘one of the best in Australia’.

Its Aussie Rules Football Team, The Bloods, have experienced some great successes in the Mid Gippsland Football League.
