History

The Wurundjeri tribe of the Kulin nation were the first people of South Yarra. European settlers arrived in the 1830s. At this time, South Yarra became popular with Melbourne’s wealthy class, who built many mansions. In the 1920s, property developers turned many of the older mansions’ gardens into apartments.
