History

First called ‘Morang South’, South Morang falls under the local governance of the City of Whittlesea. The area was first mapped by Europeans as part of Hovell and Hume’s 1824 expedition, when the bickering duo set out to find new grazing lands.

Once a thriving farming community, South Morang received a suburban makeover in the 1990s. In 2012, the South Morang Railway Station opened. This boosted the suburb’s transport links, with the upcoming Mernda station set to improve things further in 2019.

South Morang has many beautiful nature parks including Plenty Gorge, Quarry Hills, and Hawkstowe. Farm Vigano is a beautiful site for weddings, and The Blue Lounge is a local favourite for a refreshing drink.
