History

The first records of Silvan go back to the opening of the post office in town in 1892.

In 1931, the town became the site of the Silvan Reservoir. The reservoir was necessary because of a drought in the Melbourne area. The reservoir still supplies water for many of Melbourne’s eastern suburbs.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Silvan is the site of the annual Tesselaar Tulip Festival every spring. It is a colourful sight nothing short of the tulip fields in Holland. The Tesselaar Tulip Farm also has many other events on throughout the year.

Silvan is home to shops, hotels, a primary school and a post office. Its location on the Silvan Reservoir and the park surrounding it render Silvan a beautiful, green suburb.
