100km north of Melbourne lies the town of Seymour. Nestled on the shores of the Goulburn River it is home to 6,400 people.
History
The region was originally inhabited by the Taungurung people. The first Europeans settled in the area in the 1800s. The mail service between Melbourne and Sydney crossed the Goulburn River at what is now known as Seymour. The government thought this spot was a good place for a town and in 1843 Seymour was founded. It got its name from Lord Seymour, the son of the 11th Duke of Somerset.

Modern-day Seymour is a lively town at the foot of the Tallarook Ranges. There is plenty to discover from events like the annual Alternative Farming Exposition to museums such as the Railway Heritage Centre.
