Romsey is a town located 61km north of Melbourne. It falls under the local government area of the Shire of Macedon Ranges, and has a population of more than 4,400.

History

Named after the English town of Romsey, the WA version actually began life two kilometres from its current location. The only thing left at Romsey’s original spot is the Royal Mail Hotel, which has since become a private home. Romsey’s train station was an important stop on the old Lancefield railway line, before it was dismantled in 1956.

Romsey is an excellent basecamp for enjoying the Macedon Ranges. Wine and gourmet food tours are a popular pastime, and Romsey itself features many boutique shops to browse. The town features a small, yet highly impressive list of restaurants, each of which makes tasty use of the region’s rich produce.
