With a population of over 3,100 people, Rochester is a small town in country Victoria. It is 180km north of Melbourne and lies on the Campaspe River.
History
The Pinpandoor tribe are the original inhabitants of Rochester, and call the area “Yalooka”. Rochester takes its name from Dr John Pearson Rowe, who owned a hotel in the town. Rochester was officially gazetted in 1855, and the post office opened in 1863.

These days, Rochester is known as an agricultural town. The main industries are dairy, tomatoes, cattle, and sheep.
Sports fans will enjoy visiting Rochester, as many locals enjoy keeping active in their spare time. Tennis, cricket, basketball, netball, cycling, and swimming a popular with residents. Rochester also has an Aussie Rules football team known as the Tigers. In 2012, the team won the GVFL premiership.
Golfers are welcome to play at the Campaspe Golf Club or at the Rochester Golf Club.
