Point Cook is a suburb of Melbourne found 25km west of the central business district. With a population of over 32,000, Point Cook has a lot of history behind it.

History

Point Cook was first established in 1836 in honour of a sailor named John M. Cooke. In 1912, the suburb became the birthplace of the Royal Australian Air Force, and RAAF Base Williams remains active to this day. The RAAF Museum is also based here, along with various other points of cultural interest.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

The Point Cook Coastal Park has lots of marine life, and also includes the Cheetham Wetlands – a rare bird paradise. Point Cook has seen much urban development in recent times, with a shopping centre, food court and various modern estates popping up since the mid-1990s.

A culturally diverse spot, Point Cook is known for its vibrant culinary scene. All sorts of restaurants and cafes are dotted around the centre, from Mexican to Pakistani to Japanese. Like many Melbourne suburbs, this is definitely one for the foodies.
