FAQs

  • My single lever mixer tap is leaking; what do I do?

This type of tap is commonly known as a sink mixer & usually has two isolation taps in cupboard underneath it. Turn these clockwise to isolate water; if this fails to stop water running, turn water off the water meter in front of the property.

  • If I can smell gas near my stove what do I do?

If you smell gas in kitchen, you need to shut down the isolation valve to your gas appliances; shut off valve should be located near stove, usually in a kitchen cupboard. Turn valve to a position which crosses the pipe. If, after having closed isolation valve at gas meter, you can still smell gas, call gas supplier (number should be on your gas bill).

  • What should be done during an emergency when pipes are leaking?

If it is hot water that is leaking, there will be a shut off tap, usually at the base of the hot water heater. Turn this clockwise & turn on hot tap to release pressure from hot water heater. If the hot water heater is leaking, employ the same procedure, also turning off the power to the heater, (you will find a switch in the meter box, for a gas unit a gas tap will be at the base of the heater). Turn the valve so the lever is across the direction of the pipe.
