General Fireplace Information

Free-standing fireplaces, inserts, designer in-built units, cookers, hydronic fireplaces and pellet heaters; stylish pieces in all sizes and a multitude of finishes. Our fireplaces are built on the long European tradition of heating with wood. They're highly efficient, environmentally friendly and do not require electric fans to produce and distribute the heat. Very low wood consumption and clean combustion enables you to lessen your homes environmental impact.

How Do They Work?

Our fireplaces heat your home through radiant heat and the process of natural convection. Radiant heat is the healthy heat, much like the warmth you feel from the sun. This is felt with minutes of lighting your fireplace. Natural convection exploits the principle of hot air rising, drawing cold air into the heater and heating it in the convection channels to subtly create an airflow throughout the home. This process rapidly and evenly heats the air within your home and can reach much further than a fan forced heater without the use of electricity. These methods of heating combined with heat bank technology ensures that you harvest every bit of energy from the wood you burn, with efficiency of up to 80% and emissions as low as 0.4g.

Materials

Rather than old fashioned, inefficient cast iron, which can crack when exposed to very high temperatures, our fireplaces are made using high quality steel. This is now the latest advance in fireplace manufacturing. Designed and manufactured for the extreme cold of a European winter and tested with Australian hard wood. We offer the latest in wood heating technology, with Vermiculite lining and natural stone or refractory concrete heat bank available in most free standing units.

FAQs

  • How to correctly light the fire?

Use kindling wood, paper and firelighters to get the fire started. Add larger pieces of wood only after a bed of red-hot coals has been established. Build small fires regularly & provide plenty of air rather than one large, smouldering fire with the air controls turned down. Don't close air supply totally overnight - a little air avoids a lot of smoke. Don't pack your fire & leave it on a low setting when you go out. Most heaters burn better with two smaller logs rather than one large one.

  • If something goes wrong, What causes black glass?

Wood too damp, No draught from chimney, Too much draught from chimney, Regulator has been set to the secondary air position too early or too late, Insufficient air supply. Below minimum heat level.

  • What if, Wood burning up too quickly?

Too much draught from chimney. Wood chopped too finely. Combustion air regulator not set to secondary air supply position.

  • Is Smoke, smell of smoke or soot particles detected in room?

Insufficient air supply. Chimney diameter too small. Outside temperature too high. Wind in chimney. Extractor fans (kitchen/ bathroom/toilet) generate negative pressure in room. Insufficient fresh air supply.
