Malvern is a lovely suburb of Melbourne in Victoria with a population of around 9,500. It is situated 8 kilometres south-east of Melbourne’s central business district and is close to the beach in St Kilda.

History

The town of Malvern saw its first settlers in 1835. A man called John Gardiner was one of the first to live in the suburb. There was a small area known as Gardiners Creek, which became smaller during the gold rush.

Malvern Post Office opened in 1860. It was renamed Malvern north in 1892. The town hall was built in 1886.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Malvern is home to the Malvern Central shopping centre, which has lots of good shops, boutiques and restaurants. There are a few Victorian parks and gardens in the suburb including Malvern Gardens.

The town has some great churches, a busy railway station and a tram depot. You can find four schools in the area, along with some heritage buildings.
