Welcome to Landsborough, VIC
Landsborough is a small village in Victoria. It dwells in the foothills of the Pyrenees Ranges, and has a population of just over 250.
History
When gold was discovered in the 1850s, the Wimmera region was soon packed with miners and burgeoning settlements. Landsborough is one such settlement, built in 1861 and named after the explorer William Landsborough. Landsborough has long since ceased gold mining, but several towns around it still engage in the trade. Ararat and Stawell are two of the most notable.
Lifestyle and Entertainment
These days, Landsborough is known for farming and winemaking. It’s part of the Pyrenees wine region, with several vineyards based in the confines of the town. The surrounding bushlands are rich in wildlife, including koalas and kangaroos.
The Pyrenees Endurance Ride kicks off in Landsborough every year, and sees hundreds of riders gather to test their skills on the tough mountains trails. The Heritage-listed Tottington Woolshed lies just outside the town. This 19th-century shearing shed is one of the last of its kind still remaining.
