Heidelberg West is a north-eastern suburb of Melbourne. It is located 12km from the Central Business District. It is part of the local government area of the City of Banyule. It has a population of 5,327.

History

The 1950s were a busy time for Heidelberg West. A shopping centre called The Mall was built during this decade, and in 1956 the athlete’s village for the Olympic Games was located here. After the Olympic Games finished, the village became a public housing estate.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Two cricket clubs and two football clubs are based in the area. There are also several education centres for those with children.

Darebin Creek provides some green space for residents and visitors to enjoy. The parkland surrounding it has some extremely old fruit and olive trees. The Darebin Creek Trail is a nice place to go for a walk or a cycle.
