Gordon is a town in the Shire of Moorabool local government area. It is around 95km west of Melbourne, and 25km east of Ballarat. The town has a population of 1,219, according to the 2011 census.
History
Gordon is named after the settler, George Gordon. He was the first settler in the area, settling in 1838 with a massive stock farming run. The suburb prospered during Victoria’s gold rush, however began to decline in 1910 when commercial mining ended. In recent years, Gordon has experienced a revival thanks to its quiet rural feel, as well as its proximity to Ballarat and Melbourne.

Located in the foothills of the Paddock Creek Valley, Gordon has a reservoir and public park, as well as walking and running paths. Although it is a quiet town, Gordon’s commercial area has a general store, hotel, church, and other heritage buildings. AFL is a highly popular sport in the area as well.
