History

The area now known as Glen Waverley was originally settled in the mid-19th century. The fertile land provided ideal conditions for agriculture and settlers soon established farms and orchards.

It is believed that the name Glen Waverley has its roots in Scotland. It’s thought the word ‘Waverley’ was taken from a Sir Walter Scott novel, in the same way that Edinburgh’s famous Waverley station got its name.

Glen Waverley has a large Asian population and this is reflected in the number of Asian restaurants which can be found along the main street of town, Kingsway.
